What forms of payment are accepted for renting a car?

 

Enterprise accepts the following forms of payment:
 

Credit Cards

 

Credit cards are accepted at airport and non-airport locations in the US, Puerto Rico and Canada.
 

  • VISA®
  • MasterCard®
  • American Express®
  • Discover Network® (For Canada, Discover® is only accepted at major Airport locations)
  • JCP (Japan Credit Bureau)

Renters without a ticketed return travel itinerary will need to provide a credit card with sufficient available credit to cover the estimated total amount for the rental and a deposit between $200-$850 depending on the rental location and class of vehicle rented.

 

Debit/Check Cards


Debit/check cards are any non-credit cards bearing the VISA®, Mastercard® or Discover® logo. Prepaid cards or any other non-credit cards without one of these logos are not accepted.
 

At airport locations, debit cards are only accepted at the time of rental if accompanied by a ticketed return travel itinerary. The name and address shown on the renter’s driver’s license must match their current home address. Active-duty military personnel are exempt from address requirements. Other than the Renter’s spouse or domestic partner, no other additional drivers are allowed.  If using a debit card for any amounts owed, the available funds in the account associated with Renter’s debit card will be reduced by those amounts.  Additionally, Renter is responsible for any overdraft fees incurred.

 

Gift cards


Enterprise accepts pre-paid gift cards with a Visa®, Mastercard® or American Express® logo as a form of payment at the end of a rental. We do not accept gift cards at the beginning of the rental*. Payment is never required when making a reservation.

Cash


For security reasons, many Enterprise branches do not accept cash payments; however, some branches may accept cash or a money order at the end of the rental for final payment after the vehicle has been returned. Check with your rental location to see if the rental location accepts cash or money orders at the end of the rental. We apologize for any inconvenience.

At the time of rental, the estimated total amount for the rental will be charged to the credit card provided by Renter. To account for Renter potentially incurring additional amounts owed under the rental contract, at the time of rental, renters without a ticketed return travel itinerary will be required to provide a deposit between $300 and $850 depending on the rental location and class of vehicle rented.
 

The deposit amount will not be available for use by Renter and/or refunded to Renter until after the vehicle has been returned and the rental contract is closed.
 

The signature on the back of the credit card used by Renter must match the name imprinted on the credit card presented by Renter and the signature on the rental contract.
 

If Renter made the reservation for the rental online, the name printed on the credit card presented by Renter must match the name reserved for the online transaction and identification presented.
 

If you are entitled to a refund, the location will release the funds once the vehicle has been returned and the rental contract is closed.
 

Debit/Check Cards

The deposit amount will not be available for use by Renter and/or refunded to Renter until after the vehicle has been returned and the rental contract is closed.
 

If you are entitled to a refund, the location will release the funds once the vehicle has been returned and the rental contract is closed. Due to bank processing times, this could be delayed.  Typically, customers have their refund within 20 business days.

Virtual Credit Cards:
 

Enterprise does not accept online-only, virtual credit cards or any other type of "single-use" card number security product or one-time use credit card number that may be provided by credit card companies for online use.
 

Enterprise shall not assume responsibility or liability in connection with the use of online-only, virtual credit cards or any other type of "single-use" card number security product or one-time use credit card number that may be provided by credit card companies for online transactions.
 

Enterprise shall have no obligation to honor transactions made with such cards.

  • the address must be within 50 miles of the renting branch OR the renter’s driver’s license is from the same state where the rental branch is located;
  • renters must present a utility bill with no past due balance or disconnect notice.  Renters must also present one of the following items: cellular phone bill, paycheck or paystub, or original declaration page from an active auto insurance policy.  Utility bill(s), cellular phone bill(s) and paycheck or paystub must be originals and dated within 30 days and, each must indicate the renter’s current home address. 
  • Active duty military personnel are exempt from address requirements.


If using a debit card for any amounts owed, the available funds in the account associated with Renter’s debit card will be reduced by those amounts.  Additionally, Renter is responsible for any overdraft fees incurred.
 

Other than the renter’s spouse or domestic partner, no other additional drivers are allowed.

Personal references - You may be asked to provide the name and phone number for two individuals who know who you are and where you live.
